Closely related to Cicadas and Leafhoppers, Treehoppers (Membracidae) are an incredibly morphologically diverse family of insects. With 428 genera and more than 3,450 species, their disparity in appearance is most immediately conveyed by the pronotum, or "helmet," which is often evolved to mimic their environment (a thorn or leaf, etc.) or even other insects. Treehoppers can be found all over the world, but are often overlooked, with adults ranging in size from 2-24mm in length.
